For Increased Vitality, Breathe More Fully!

Think of the high wire walker in the circus; his body is focused, his muscles ready for anything. His concentration is complete. How do you think he is breathing? He is certianly not taking short, raspy shallow breaths or speedy, shaky, fearful breaths. His focus is on his task and his need for calm. His slow, deliberate movements flow with his slow and steady breathing, which is relaxed... filling his lungs with needed oxygen in a rhythmic breathing pattern.

Our respiration can tell us much about our overall health and balance. The ease with which we fill our lungs and empty them throughout the day is a key to our health and vitality.

Having our nervous system balanced and our spine free of interference allows optimal function of our lungs and heart. That ballance expands our capacity for well being by increasing the life-giving exchange of oxygen to our blood. Deep, clear breaths invigorate our life force, providing us with an overall feeling of wellness, peace and contentment.

Chiropractic adjustments clear the nervous system, allowing the chest and diaphragm to accept healing full breaths on each inhalation. Watching a newly adjusted patient light up with vitality taking full, beneficial breaths is one of the joys of my practice.

Try sitting slumped over in a too soft chair, with your head down, with your shoulders rounded and your spine contracted. Take a full breath in this posture and you will understand how you might feel during any given day when you are not fully extended and your lungs wide open to your breath. Imagine living in this posture day in and day out, much less sleeping in it. This is the experience we have when we fail to take proper care of our posture, our nervous system and the skeletal structure - all vital to make our marvelous bodies work, run, play breathe and ENJOY life!
